Where did we begin?

Myrmex began in 2024, born from a fascination with both design and the intricate world of ants. What started as a passion project soon evolved into a mission: to create ant habitats that were not only scientifically functional but also visually striking. Using Computer Aided Design (CAD), we began sketching our first concepts. Over thirty unique designs that explored different ways to merge aesthetics with biological precision.

Each model was carefully studied, refined, and tested with one guiding principle in mind: to allow ants to behave as naturally as possible, without unnecessary disruption to their environment. After countless prototypes, we distilled those early ideas into a handful of meticulously crafted designs/ habitats that balance scientific accuracy with modern design sensibility.

Our approach has always been rooted in curiosity and craftsmanship. Every angle, chamber, and connection in a Myrmex formicarium is engineered to support the ants’ natural rhythms while offering maximum visibility for the keeper. We believe that observing these miniature ecosystems shouldn’t just be educational , it should be captivating.

At Myrmex, design and biology meet at a microscopic scale. Each product embodies our commitment to precision, transparency, and respect for the tiny architects that inspire us. We continue to innovate, refining our designs and experimenting with new materials and techniques to push the limits of what an ant habitat can be.

Our Conceptual Progression

Our designs didn't always look like this. Believe it or not, our vision changed immensely over the span of a year.

Revision 47 (22/07/25)

Throughout the development of our Myrmex nest line, our designs underwent an extensive process of revision and refinement. Many of our early concepts, though creatively ambitious, evolved considerably as we pursued higher standards of functionality, durability, and visual appeal. Several innovative prototypes ultimately did not meet our strict performance criteria, serving instead as valuable learning experiences that informed future iterations.

Each design phase involved careful analysis, from assessing material suitability and hydration efficiency to optimizing the visual balance between naturalism and modern aesthetics. The selection process was intentionally meticulous, ensuring that every model not only met our technical expectations but also reflected the minimalist, purposeful design philosophy that defines Myrmex.

This continuous cycle of experimentation, critique, and improvement has allowed us to produce nests that harmonize scientific precision with elegant design, pieces that both the ants and their keepers can appreciate.
